Mafia 3 pc metacritic
This could make sure that Lincoln really uses CIA-style assassination tactics. For example, instead of Lincoln drawing out Marcano's soldiers or capos, they should have already been present at said location and Lincoln attacks them either through stealth or direct assault (like in Splinter Cell: Blacklist or the modern Hitman games). I think the Definitive Edition could have fixed all that by streamlining the game by taking out the repetitive mission objectives and focusing more on the story like Mafia 1 and 2. The gameplay tried too hard to be The Godfather 1 and 2 but fell incredibly short and was too repetitive. The audio felt like old microphones were being used by the voice actors and that made their performances at times feel overly dramatic and loud. I consider him one of my favorite game characters of all time and that teaser at the end of Mafia 3 makes me hopeful that he will return in the future.Ĭons: The documentary style of the game, although unique and gave the game style, spoiled a lot of the game numerous times.
In my opinion, John Donovan stood out the most to me and deserves his own game.

I think a condensed version of the game would have become a fantastic movie or TV mini-series. Pros: Excellent story, characters, themes, cinematics/cutscenes and performances that made it stand out from other games in the same genre. Right now, this is the definitive Mafia game to me, but that might change when the Mafia 1 remake comes around. At the time of its release, few games were able to pull that off. Mafia 2 felt more like an interactive movie to me that allowed me to immerse myself in its story and setting. But when I started playing Mafia 2, I felt that The Godfather was more of a game than Mafia 2 was. This was mainly because of The Godfather's familiar story, rank/upgrade systems, combat mechanics, police/FBI systems, extortion gameplay and having to deal with rival families. Overall opinion: Before this game's release I always thought that The Godfather 1 game was the definitive gangster game. Basically they could have showed us what Vito went through after the events of Mafia 2 instead of Vito briefly telling Lincoln in Mafia 3 when we are first introduced to him. After playing Mafia 3 for the first time, I felt that despite Mafia 2 being a linair game, it should have had an epilogue chapter or DLC where we see Vito dealing with the aftermath of the gang war and the loss of his best friend Joe (since he defined most of Vito's life to begin with). It has the best original soundtrack and licensed music, the weapons really feel like they pack a punch and the characters feel more alive than in the previous game.Ĭons: Prior to Mafia 3, I felt that the game could have had meaningful sidemissions or activities to immerse me more in the game's world. The cars, the clothing and the environments all yell 40s and 50s America. Pros: This game's story lives up to the franchise's name by having the best mafia story with an incredibly immersive world. I am hopeful that the remake will stay true to the original and improve on it. Overall opinion: Classic game that very much deserves a remake. Future Mafia releases focused more on accessibility so that it sold to a broader audience. This learning curve you can only find in games of the era that it was released in. Every move you make needs to be a calculated one and every subsequent playthrough I got better at the game. This doesn't mean it is bad by any means, but this is what gives the game its charm and following. The only time I saw this again was in the new Hitman games.Ĭons: Stiff gameplay, average voice acting (at least the English version) and bad checkpoints. I also think the secret mechanics to make the missions easier are a really amazing addition to the game. The main theme remains the best in the series. Pros: This game felt like one of those classic gangster films of the early Hollywood era.
